610 ARTS COLLECTIVE

Ridgway Chautauqua Society’s New Sherbino Theater and their 610 Arts Collective

610 Arts Collective is the result of two passionate arts organizations working together to create a shared vision of bringing arts, enrichment, and Chautauqua style learning to the Ridgway, CO area.

610, as we call it, is the shared office space of Ridgway Chautauqua Society (which owns The Sherbino Theater and the 610 Clinton Street buildings) and Weehawken Creative Arts. These sister organizations, while separate in mission and fincances, collaborate to offer a range of programs at the theater, the 610 space and other local spaces. 610 is also an exhibition space for local and visiting artists, and a classroom space for programs.

As of June 2019, The 610 Arts Collective now houses an exhibition gallery space as well as a gallery shop with offerings from local and visiting artists.  Exhibitions are generally rotated on a monthly basis, with the exception of three events a year:  1) a themed winter open show on a given substrate from mid-January – February 2) an OPEN show (The 610 Open) every April/May and 3) the extension of our Gallery Shop which features smaller gift items at a lower price point each mid-November until Dec 24.   Details on exhibitions, applications, etc can be found on our separate gallery website at www.610arts.com

ON OUR COLLABORATIONS
….A serious movement has been afoot within Ouray County for arts organizations to cooperate in the areas of event planning, scheduling, marketing, coordination, and event staffing.  In 2012, the Alpenglow Arts Alliance was born, which is a collective of Ouray County arts organizations including:  RCS/Sherbino, Weehawken Creative Arts, Ouray County Performing Arts Guild, The Wright Opera HouseMountain Air Music Series, Ridgway FUSE and Ouray Creative District/Ouray Made.  Willing to lead, Weehawken and the RCS/Sherbino have been managing the Alliance since 2016.

In the Fall of 2014, Weehawken and The RCS/Sherbino took the spirit of collaboration a step further and entered into an Agreement for Collaboration, Cooperation & Cost Sharing (MOU).  Now entering our ninth year, Weehawken Creative Arts and the RCS/Sherbino share a staff of three, share space and systems, are developing mutually beneficial programming, and are taking advantage of economies-of-scale efficiencies wherever possible.
