Sherbino Writers Room: Sketch Comedy Writing

Promotional graphic for Sherb Writers Room: Sketch Comedy Writers. The background is yellow notebook paper with blue pen doodle-style illustrations of four comedians holding microphones, each with different expressions — smiling, laughing, and one looking serious. Text reads: 'Sherb Writers Room: Sketch Comedy Writers, winter, Select Wednesdays, 7–8:30 pm.' A blue pen rests on the right side of the image.

Looking to stretch your creative muscles? Just want some free funny on a Wednesday night? You’re in luck! The Sherbino is launching a brand-new program: Sherbino Writers Room: Sketch Comedy!

Led by long-time Sherbino Night Live writer and local comedic comrade Lexi Trachy, this drop-in writing group welcomes anyone interested in writing (or just laughing through) sketch comedy. Whether you’re a seasoned joke-slinger or just sketch-curious, no experience is necessary; everyone is welcome!

Meetings will take place in October on the 8th and the 29th at 7:00 pm.

What to expect from a Writers Room session:

  • Table reads of group work
  • Group idea sharing and editing
  • Brainstorming games and inspiration exercises
  • Collaborative idea-sharing
  • Laughs (hopefully)

Let’s get writing. Let’s get weird. Let’s get funny again.

📝 Sept 3 Assignment:

  • Watch these handy videos to get “warm” before coming to the meetings:
  • Pick a direction and go deeper:
    • Develop a sketch, character, or scene based on:
      1. The Tourism Council / Marketing Theme, or
      2. The Family Vacation Narrative
  • ❓Open Questions for the Group
    • What is the arc of the family vacation? Where do they start and where do they end?
    • How do the tourism board and family storylines intersect?
    • What’s the climax of the show? Does it end with the EurAvision contest?
    • What surprises or twists could we include in the finale?
