Improv Comedy Workshop – The 101!

December 8 @ 6:25 pm 8:00 pm

Learn the art of improv comedy at the Sherbino! The Improv 101 Series meets once a month, October–April, for fun, fast-paced games and exercises that boost creativity, confidence, and connection. No experience needed — just come ready to laugh!

Have you ever watched an improv comedy show and wondered to yourself “How do they think so quickly?” Have you ever wanted to TRY improv comedy? Well, now’s your chance!

Join us, for an improv comedy workshop series! You will learn the foundations of improv comedy: yes, and…, raising the stakes, creating characters, being present, and finding closure. And even if you don’t run away and join an improv comedy troupe, you will be able to apply these skills to your everyday life–be more confident in social situations, be more creative with colleagues, and think faster on your feet.

Whether you are a seasoned performer or completely new to performing, you will learn skills and have boatloads of fun in this workshop. Come play with the Play Does!

$90 for series or $15 per class (please register in advance online or at the 610 Arts Collective – we don’t have people on site to deal with registration and $$!)

Here is an outline of the sessions:

October 13 – Confidence and Acceptance: “Yes And”. An improviser needs to be able to make bold choices and to stand by those choices. Improvisers need to accept and embrace each other’s choices.

November 10 – Attention and Memory: Listening and Projection. “To Be Interesting, Be Interested!”

December 8 – Playing in Space: Create Your World and “Be Specific”. When we see, touch, smell, hear and REACT to our environment, the audience can, too.

January 12 – Playing from Emotion: Feel and Heighten the Feeling. Emotion Should be at the Core of Our Improvisation.

February 9 – Active Endowments for Emotional Reactions: Instead of Talking About it, Physicalize It!

March 9 – The Why: Allowing the Audience to Understand a Scene. What is the underlying motivation, emotion, and justification for your actions and choices?

April 13 –  Show for Friends and Family

Instructors: Eric Constantineau and Andrea Sokolowski

Class cap: 16 people – Register in advance, please!

Please inform us if you’ve taken a spot and need to withdraw so that we can make room for others! info@sherbino.org
