About Ridgway Artist, Gay Leachman:

My approach to painting a piece starts with a blank space…a space with imaginary lines, shapes, textures, large and small objects and a color palette that begins with the background. I start to fill that white space with thin to bold lines, drawn with my eyes closed. Then come layers of paint, sometime smeared with a wet paper towel, sometimes with a big brush, sometimes with a small brush. I love using different “tools” to create texture: maybe a bunch of pine needles tied together, the end of a spent toilet paper roll, the end of a
chop stick, some bubble wrap, or just about anything else …..and working with my fingers is my favorite way to express!

I want to capture the beauty of color, the unpredictable movement of stepping out of the norm, and the ever endless freedom of being spontaneous. Using my fingers helps me engage in the journey of the painting. I guide the process and the process guides me. Trusting that there is no pre-determined, end product
for me. Or for you, the viewer, either.

What inspires and motivates me is to feel that spontaneous, whimsical freedom inside me, to let it go and to follow it wherever it leads me.

I’ve lived in Ridgway, Colorado since 1971. I have done art in many forms since early childhood. I don’t analyze much or try to understand how things work. I have always tended more to rely on instinct and intuition to get me where I need to go. Art allows me to not just follow my instincts and intuition, but pursue them with purpose and conviction.

About Colorado native Artist, Jenny McIntyre:

Colorado native Jenny McIntyre has painted the Colorado landscape for over 25 years. She began her artistic adventures as a professional photographer and then transitioned her love of composition and color into oil paints on canvas. As her vision expands, she has become intrigued by the movement and abstractions in the overall landscape, especially in the rock formations of W, Colorado, and Utah.

It’s the rhythms of color and stone that capture her eye and give structure to her works. Combined with rivers and desert vegetation, this symphony of palette, light, and rhythm is the true inspiration for her work.

Jenny currently resides in Montrose Colorado. When she’s not painting or teaching Tai Chi and yoga, she explores the landscape with her dog and camera.
