ARTIST’S STATEMENT:
At 56, I am just beginning to accept that I am what I always wanted to be — a relatively self-sufficient, itinerant jane-of-all-trades, though not as itinerant as I once might have wanted. I have fixed my own lawnmower and replaced the control panel on my stove. I change the oil in Trundle, my Toyota truck that is approaching 350k miles. I’ve taught school, run rivers for a living, made and shoveled snow, lived in my truck and a tipi and raised a decent, creative human being. In high school, I said I wanted to be a journalist or photographer and travel the world. I do write for the Telluride Daily Planet, Norwood Post, and Telluride magazines. I travel. I take photos because I love to. Poetry has been my lifeblood since before I can remember. Sometimes, I can be found on stage with my dear poet friends Art Goodtimes and Daiva Chesonis as the Writes Mesa Gang. Recently, I spent a year reading and writing creative nonfiction. Now I am suffusing myself in writing fiction. Sort of. I’m trying. It’s daunting.
