UPDATE:
Big news and show update!!
Alex’s little boy made a surprise early visit on Friday, May 10 so we’re gonna call a bit of an audible for this show @thesherbino as well as the show at the Mancos Opera House Friday evening, both with @gabriellelouisemusic
We’re thinking of a songwriters in the round style first set with a trio set and some collaborations with Gabby at the end. I (Alex) unfortunately won’t be able to attend so I can be home with my family. I hope y’all understand the need to shift and accommodate this new addition to the flock and are still stoked to come out and support. We’re working on getting a full Birds of Play make up show on the books in September so stay tuned.
I will be making it down to @ticotime_bluegrass
Sunday for the last two sets of Birds of Play in its original arrangement and the last shows with @ericsheddmusic so come on down that way Sunday to see him off!
Thanks for all the love and support as we venture forth into this new chapter. We can’t wait for y’all to meet the newest Bird in the coming months.
So. Much. CAW!!!
Birds of Play is an Americawna Roots quartet based in the San Juan Mountains of
Southwestern Colorado. Their distinct sound is rooted in and inspired by their connection to the land in which they reside. The band features multi- instrumentalists and songwriters Alex Paul on Guitar, Upright Bass, Mandolin and Vocals; Eric Shedd on Upright Bass, Mandolin, Guitar and Vocals; Anneke Dean on Violin, Guitar and Vocals and Jack Tolan on Guitar, Mandolin, Electric Bass and Vocals.
Their arrangements and compositions are a reflection of their vast and teaming pools of inspiration from artists such as Wood Brothers, Punch Brothers and Andrew Bird. Birds of Play’s high-caliber musicianship and song craft are laced with imagination and a vibrant, intuitive understanding of the human condition – while their live shows weave together an intricate tapestry of place, authenticity, magic, and humor.
Five years into this journey, Birds of Play are venturing further out of the nest to create community and bring people together to share in universal themes of love, connection, and wonder. With an uplifting and joyous exuberance – and a fourth studio album on the horizon for release this summer – these four dear friends are riding the thermals of their creativity to ever-greater heights.
