Sherb Talk: Garrett Guinn and the Path to the Single Year Triple Crown
This talk will be about Garrett's long-distance hiking experiences, and focused primarily on his Single Year Triple Crown.
He hopes to engage the audience in a question-and-answer format while using some pictures and video footage to help tell his story.
In 2016, my life felt comfortable and stagnant. To shake things up, I quit my engineering job and hiked the Pacific Crest Trail. Over the 115 day journey, I fell in love with the trail, the people, and the lifestyle. Knowing I wanted more, I decided to attempt the Calendar Year Triple Crown in 2018; hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, Continental Divide Trail, and Appalachian Trail in the same calendar year. After a warmup hike in Southern Utah of over 750 miles, on May 1, I set out to hike the PCT, CDT, and AT, in that order. When I finally arrived at the end of the AT on January 13, I had hiked over 7,800 miles becoming the 11th person to finish the triple crown of hiking in under a year duration. While I failed at completing the CYTC, I did accomplish a Single Year Triple Crown.
