Sherb Talk: The Successful Resurrection of the World’s Fastest Hot Rod

Buckle up as Danny Thompson returns to the stage.

Danny Thompson, Ridgway resident and land speed record holder, will be joining us on...to discuss his successful quest to transform the Challenger 2, a fifty-year-old car he inherited from his father, into the world’s fastest piston-powered vehicle.

About Danny Thompson

Step by step, Danny Thompson has maintained and expanded his family’s celebrated history in motor sports. He began his career in Motocross, winning his first eighteen consecutive events, before switching to cars and progressing through the Formula Atlantic Series, Supervees, and CRA Sprint Cars. He won the opening night of the Mickey Thompson Off-Road Championship Grand Prix, and continued performing as a Chevrolet factory driver for the next seven seasons. After a decade of retirement Danny came to Bonneville for the first time in 1999 and subsequently became a national record holder in multiple classes. He gained notoriety in 2007 for building and piloting the world’s fastest Ford Mustang in partnership with Hajek Racing. In 2016, Danny broke the national record in his class in the restored and updated Challenger 2, with a speed of 406.769. During Speed Week 2018, the Challenger 2 set a new SCTA AA/FS record of 448.757mph. A history of community

Established in 1915, the Sherbino has been the heart of Ridgway Colorado, providing a venue for community events ranging from music to poetry. Now in a period of re-birth, the Sherbino continues to standout as the hub of events and community activities in Ridgway and throughout Ouray County. On February 11 2012 the Sherbino incorporated as the Ridgway Chautauqua Society Inc. whose mission is to embody the Chautauqua tradition by producing programs celebrating lifelong learning, the arts, culture and community.
