Open Bard Literary Series: Youth Poetry Night

Join Open Bard Literary Series for a special poetry reading event featuring area youth! Students from grades 6 through 12, including those who homeschool in Ouray, San Miguel, and Montrose counties, are invited to participate.

Open Bard welcomes poetry of any style, subject, or form. We especially appreciate poems that surprise with fresh language and careful writing. We also welcome poetic recitations from individuals or groups of 2-3 people.

Exceptional submissions will receive awesome, literary prizes! Awards of books, writing swag and/or gift cards to Ouray Bookshop will be awarded in the following categories: Best Original Poem; Best Performance of an Original Poem and Best Recitation of a Poem by another author.

To enter, students should answer the following questions and attach their poems (no names on the poems, please!) in an email to tessa@weehawkenarts.org. Deadline is January 31, 2020:

Admission to Youth Night is free to all, though donations are greatly appreciated to support Open Bard's mission to create a vibrant literary community for writers of all ages in Ouray County.

A history of community

Established in 1915, the Sherbino has been the heart of Ridgway Colorado, providing a venue for community events ranging from music to poetry. Now in a period of re-birth, the Sherbino continues to standout as the hub of events and community activities in Ridgway and throughout Ouray County. On February 11 2012 the Sherbino incorporated as the Ridgway Chautauqua Society Inc. whose mission is to embody the Chautauqua tradition by producing programs celebrating lifelong learning, the arts, culture and community.
